This month, we've spared no expense in delivering another intense experience. You might not have heard of her yet but by the end of the FPA experience, you will definitely be in awe. Afterall, her latest album titled Songs From The Bardo left our jaws dropped.

Songs For Haiti and Shannon Hurley

I don't really post about album releases here in the buzz section because if I do, I'm afraid I'd end up posting so much daily. There's too much amazing albums out there! They do get their proper kudos during our New Music Morning (NMM™) sets. However, I've been meaning to post about Shannon Hurley's new baby as it's for a good cause. The project is called Songs For Haiti, a benefit album to help the rescue effort for the people of Haiti after the massive and devastating January earthquake. It's currently only in digital format for sale over at CDBaby. From what I heard, if there's enough demand there might be a physical CD form.

And just for the sake of full disclosure, I'll have to mention that I helped bring in some of the artists involved in this project. READ: The involvement in no way affect how I think about this amazing compilation! Check out the link to the compilation to see who are involved. There's so much talent to list them all here! All proceeds from this album go to www.oxfamamerica.org.

More awesome news comes in the way of Shannon's television interview at NBC LA. Shannon talks about her upcoming album (solo and Lovers And Poets), her involvement in songwriting for movies, Songs For Haiti, and some surprise KGRL + Mysty (whoever that is :P) mention! 4th Anniversary!

Next month, May, marks KGRL's 4 years in webcasting! KGRL is 4 years old! Hooray! I'm glad to say that we're still alive and serving only the BEST in female-fronted music. It's been an honor to be supported by such listeners with discriminating taste in music. When I created the station back in 2006, I didn't think it would last this long. I started not knowing anything. I had zero contacts. Throughout the years of doing KGRL, I've gathered lots and lots of experience as well as contacts. I'm proud to say that KGRL is getting a lot more supporters as we go and that's a really good sign that we are doing things right. I hope you'll continue to follow us throughout this intense musical journey.

Like the years that passed by, we are once again requesting your presence for the celebration of our 4th Anniversary. I am hoping that all of you who care for the station will send a short 10-20 seconds greeting that will be played on-air and kept forever in our anniversary page. What anniversary page? The Flower-Powered Artist feature pages are the most comprehensive feature out there in the whole worldwide web. It's true, isn't it? I dare you prove me otherwise! But if you can, send your proof to mysty at kgrl dot fm! It's nearly two years now that we've had artists coming over the studios we rent to play exclusively for all you flowerites. I remember, way back when we started, how we were only covering the featured artists' live shows. Ah those were the times. I also remember the problems of getting the venue approval and finding a good spot to do the interview.

So here we are again another month is starting and you guessed it, a new FPA! Allow me to present our April 2010 Flower-Powered Artist, the Brooklyn-based band Clare And The Reasons. Stream server problem (Updated: Fixed now!)

We are very sorry for all the streaming issues currently happening. The stream is constantly rebuffering as there is a problem with our server. The network issue is a bend in one of their fibers to NYC. They are trying to reroute the cut fiber using an alternate path because they are unable to gain access to the fiber for repair due to fire. There is currently no ETA at this time.

Whatever will you do now that the KGRL stream server has problems? The FPA pages at least are working. You can feast on that for now. Please check back later or keep an eye out on the flowerbox for an immediate update regarding this situation. Again, we apologize for this inconvenience.

Update: It's working now! Thank you for your patience. Oh Mister Mott, I think your stern look works wonders. Time to enjoy your favorite station!

I know that we're very late in giving a gift for you this holiday season but this is more of an unplanned present. I thought that we'd do something quite different this time. We are very proud to present to you a special intimate acoustic version of Pomplamoose's Always In The Season. Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn went with us over to ReadyMix Music Studio on December 21, 2009 to record a live session video. Click on the photo (taken by Jeff Koga) below to check it out.

I wonder if you are all aware about the social networking sites where KGRL can be found. Well, I'll put that wondering to rest and make a buzz about it. Here is a small list of social networking sites where KGRL exists. The KGRL groups were created by loyal flowerites: Dieter for Last.fm group and Mark Smitka for Facebook group. Big thanks to these flowerites!

Add, follow, stalk, and join (or whatever you might want to call it) KGRL on these social networking sites! Oh and I should probably add this to this buzz, you probably noticed it already but there's new icons available for your convenience on all Flower-Powered Artist pages. Added to digg and del.icio.us icons are twitter and facebook icons. That means you can now easily share the FPAs on twitter and facebook. These icons were also added here on the frontpage. December 2009 Flower-Powered Artist - Brooke Waggoner

The end of the year is near. The end of the world too, if we are to believe that 2012 Mayan prophecy. Hey, some people managed to make money out of it. Did anyone seriously watched that movie? Shame on you. 2009 is a hell of a busy year for KGRL, especially with regards to the FPA work. The switch to new equipment and workflow for the resulting HD video/audio proves to be quite a challenge. The great thing about it is that it exceeded our expectations. The videos look great that we are now able to lower the bitrate and still have a really good looking low resolution flash encodes. The NMM™ (New Morning Music) work is quite a workload too. It might seem like an easy task but really it's quite arduous as every song that is added to our playlist is carefully selected and do not depend on any hype or whatever.

I think I've yakked too much already. I won't say much anymore except that I wish you all a Merry Christmas (Happy Hanukkah or whatever it is you celebrate) and a Happy New Year! Alright, it's time to present our new Flower-Powered Artist.

As promised, the big change in the FPA videos come in today with our new Flower-Powered Artist. Not only was the video shot in high-quality professional camcorder, Sony HDR-FX1000, but the audio surpasses everything we have recorded so far. Why is that? It's because we recorded this session in a real recording studio. That's right, from now on we shall only record the FPA Live Sessions in a recording studio! Ok, enough talk. It's time to introduce the FPA.

So there's a new thing I'm introducing on this post right here, it's all about sponsoring the Flower-Powered Artist live sessions. Why do we need support for the live sessions? It's because we are moving the live sessions to a professional recording studio with a sound engineer to work on the audio pre and post production. This change goes hand in hand with the new KGRL camcorder video.

What are the perks of sponsoring an FPA live session you ask? Well, for starters you'll be listed on the Flower-Powered Artist page as a sponsor. Here's a rundown of the other perks that we're planning on giving out (subject to change based on availability): signed CD of the sponsored FPA, personalized greeting (in video or audio form), access to the live session wav files (96kHz / 24-bit MUCH BETTER than a CD), plus an early sneak peek of the live session video.

Just to let everyone know, our October 2009 Flower-Powered Artist feature will be the last video shot with our old camcorder (Sony HDR-SR11). The next FPAs will be shot with our new Sony HDR-FX1000 camcorder. So be prepared for a big change starting in November. Before I introduce this month's Flower-Powered Artist, I'd like to give kudos to every indie artists out there who struggles each day to continue making music and stay true to their art. You're one of the main reasons why we continue doing what we do with KGRL. I hope you'll go on writing and creating music your way, without compromise.

Our new FPA is one of those artists who recently broke free from the grip of major record label and now enjoys being independent.
